Finding Hope: Our Commitments During Suicide Prevention Month

As September unfolds, many of us get caught up in routine—but this month carries a quiet urgency. September is Suicide Prevention Month, with National Suicide Prevention Week happening September 6–12, and World Suicide Prevention Day observed each year on September 10.Washington CollegeWikipedia+1 This is a time to pause, reflect, and recommit to saving lives through community, compassion, and connection.

Why This Matters

Suicide is one of the leading causes of preventable death in America. Behind every statistic is a life, a story, and a struggle. Many of our clients—especially those grappling with addiction, trauma, or homelessness—are at higher risk during moments of despair or isolation. If there’s anything this month reminds us, it’s that one caring voice can make all the difference.

How Mojave Stands With You

At Mojave Center for Recovery, we view recovery not as a checklist, but a lifeline. Here's how we’re holding space this month:

  • We're listening. Whether it's through therapy sessions, group work, or an informal conversation, showing up and paying attention is powerful.

  • We're building community. Isolation fuels despair—but shared insight, group connection, and peer encouragement ignite hope.

  • We equip with tools. Our therapists guide clients on navigating crises, identifying warning signs, and making safety plans—including leveraging resources like the 988 Lifeline.

  • We challenge stigma. Families, clinics, and the broader health system often treat addiction or suicidal thoughts as shameful. At Mojave, those moments are met with empathy, not judgment.

You’re Not Alone. This Month—and Beyond.

To families, friends, and clinic partners: a simple question like “How are you really doing?”—with genuine care—can be a turning point. Whether you're checking in on someone in passing or encouraging them to reach out, you're helping change a narrative of silence into one of support.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, please call or text 988—or chat at 988lifeline.org for free, confidential support available 24/7.

This month—and every month—Mojave Center is here. You’re seen. You’re valued. There is hope.
